Assistant Women’s Ice Hockey Coach, University of Wisconsin
Jackie (Friesen) Crum is a veteran presence on the Wisconsin women’s hockey bench, entering her 18th season as an assistant coach for the Badgers in 2026–27. A former UW standout herself, Crum first joined the coaching staff as a short‑term assistant in 2009–10 before officially stepping into the role for the 2010–11 season. Her deep familiarity with the program—rooted in her four‑year playing career at Wisconsin—has shaped her coaching approach and contributed to the sustained excellence of Badger hockey. Working primarily with the team’s forwards, Crum has helped guide Wisconsin to 13 Frozen Four appearances and six national championships (2011, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025, 2026). Her player‑development impact is evident in the success of numerous athletes she has coached, including three Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winners, 10 All-Americans, and seven forwards who competed in the 2018 or 2022 Winter Olympics. Beyond Wisconsin, Crum has also contributed to Hockey Canada, serving as an assistant coach for the national U‑18 team from 2013–2015 and helping the squad capture gold at the 2014 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship. Before transitioning fully into coaching, Crum built an impressive playing résumé. She was a four‑year letterwinner and assistant captain at Wisconsin, recording 53 goals and 34 assists in 136 games, and later competed professionally in Switzerland and the Czech Republic, winning multiple Elite European League and Czech League titles. A Regina, Saskatchewan native, Crum holds a B.S. in Kinesiology–Physical Education from UW and now resides in Madison with her husband, Tim, and their daughters, Riley and Blake.
