Art Castillo

Western Wyoming Junior College Head Wrestling Coach and NJCAA National Champion Coach

Coach Art Castillo is a Green River, Wyoming native entering his 14th year as the Head Coach for the Mustangs. He also serves as the Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator in the Athletic Department, working with all athletes as they progress academically.


Coach Castillo was inducted to the NJCAA Coaches Association Hall of Fame in the class of 2022. Castillo has coached 6 National Champions, 65 All-Americans, over 100 Dual victories. In his time as a coach, Castillo has been instrumental in leading the Mustangs to three Academic National Championships (2005-2006, 2009-10, and 2019-20). Castillo has been voted the Region Coach of the Year 5 times and 2X NJCAA National Coach of the Year. In 2018, Castillo led the Mustangs to their first ever District Championship which they repeated in 2019, 2020, 2021, and again in 2022. In 2021, Castillo led the Mustangs to an NJCAA record 10 All-Americans and a Runner-up finish at the National Championships. In 2023 Castillo led his team to the NJCAA National Championship.


He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education/Sports Management and a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration. In his free time, he likes to golf, travel, and spend time with his wife, Jess.
