Sport and Clinical Psychologist for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Athletics Department
Dr. Ramel Smith was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a proud product of Milwaukee Public Schools. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He later went on to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and graduated with a Masters of Science in Educational Psychology and Doctorate of Philosophy in Urban Education with an emphasis in School Psychology. Dr. Smith is a licensed psychologist in the state of Wisconsin. A clinical psychologist by trade, Dr. Smith has had the opportunity to develop his skill set in varying arenas through out his career: correctional facilities, hospitals, secondary and higher education. Since 2007, Dr. Smith has been the President of BLAQUESMITH Psychological Consultative Services, LLC. Dr. Smith served as the Team Psychologist for the Milwaukee Bucks from 2014-2016. In addition, he served on the NFL Clinical Advisory Team under the leadership of Dwight Hollier from 2016-2019. He has completed workshops for BSN, Leaders in Sports and Nike Elite Youth Basketball. He currently contracts with the UW Badgers Sport and Clinical Psychology Department where he works with individuals, teams, coaches, and administration. A fierce advocate for social justice and community empowerment; Dr. Smith is regularly asked, to provide commentary on issues of mental health. In addition to his work nationally, Dr. Smith strives to make an impact locally through providing training and support to area schools and agencies on the topics of violence prevention, trauma informed care, social justice and human trafficking. Dr. Smith strives to speak truth in a manner which informs and empowers his community to make positive changes that will ultimately result in better outcomes for all.
